Research

Our department, established since august in 1997, is quite young and growing each year. We now have fourteen full-time and two part-time faculty members. Our faculty involves different research area including metals, ceramics, electronic and electrooptic materials, nonoscience and nanotechnology, polymer, microelectromechanics, microstructural analysis etc.

In the research performance, we published 59 SCI papers during 2001~2003. The average number of published papers per faculty was 3.3, 1.8, and 1.8 for 2001, 2002, and 2003. The research statistics for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 are listed in the following table. We have many junior faculty members. They are expected to have published papers in 2-3 years.

In the next 3-5 years, we are focusing on four research area :

  • Nanotechnology: synthesis, characterization, and applications
  • Laser processing and characterization : deposition, micromachining and welding, micro-annealing, etc.
  • Electronic, electro-optic, and microwave materials : wireless communications, white LEDs, displays
  • Energy and environmental-related technology : fuel cells, thermoelectric materials, thermal barriers, energy-saving materials etc.
Our department with young faculty has demonstrated with great potentials in research. We invite senior professors to join us in one semester or two and have collaborations with us.
